Shijiazhuang Xinlu Technology Co., Ltd. – Technical Overview of Chickpeas Processing Line

A Chickpeas Processing Line is engineered to transform raw, harvested chickpeas into a clean, graded, and market-ready product for human consumption, whether for canning, milling into flour, or packaging as whole dry pulses. The process emphasizes the removal of physical impurities, the separation of defective beans, and, for some markets, the mechanical removal of the seed coat (dehulling). Shijiazhuang Xinlu Technology Co., Ltd. designs these lines to handle the robust yet sometimes irregular shape of chickpeas while maximizing yield and quality.

Processing begins with pre-cleaning and sizing. Raw chickpeas are passed through vibrating screens and aspiration channels to remove field debris such as pods, stems, stones, and dust. Following this, the chickpeas are often sorted by size using oscillating sieves or rotary drum screens. Uniform sizing is crucial for even cooking times in subsequent canning or boiling processes and is a key quality determinant for the whole bean market.

A critical stage is dehulling and splitting. For many applications, particularly in South Asian cuisine where split chickpeas (chana dal) are a staple, dehulling is required. The process typically involves an abrasive treatment. Chickpeas are passed through an emery-coated roller machine or an abrasive disc huller, which scours the surface to crack and remove the outer seed coat. The mixture of hulls, whole beans, and split beans is then separated using a combination of air aspiration (to remove light hulls) and specific gravity separators or vibrating tables (to separate whole beans from splits based on density differences). For whole chickpea production, this stage is bypassed or minimized.

Optical sorting is a vital quality control step. High-resolution optical sorters are employed to identify and eject beans with visual defects. These machines use advanced cameras and lighting to detect and remove discolored beans, damaged beans, beans with residual hull patches, and foreign materials that have survived previous cleaning stages. This ensures a visually uniform and high-quality final product.

Polishing and final cleaning may follow. A gentle polishing drum can be used to buff the chickpeas, enhancing their natural shine and removing any final dust, which improves their appearance for retail packaging. A final pass through an air-screen cleaner or gravity table ensures the product is free from any remaining lightweight or heavy impurities.

Finally, the processed chickpeas—whether whole, polished, or split—are conveyed to packaging. They are weighed and filled into bags using automated systems, ranging from small consumer packs to large bulk sacks. The entire processing line from Shijiazhuang Xinlu Technology Co., Ltd. is designed with hygiene in mind, using food-grade materials like stainless steel for product contact surfaces, and employs gentle conveyance systems to minimize mechanical damage and breakage of the beans.
