Double Body Paddy Separator

Shijiazhuang Xinlu Technology Co., Ltd. – Technical Overview of Double Body Paddy Separator

The Double Body Paddy Separator is an essential machine in a modern rice mill, designed to perform the critical task of separating unhulled paddy grains from brown rice after the husking process. This separation is necessary because the husking operation in a pneumatic husker is not 100% efficient; a portion of paddy passes through unhulled. Sending this mixture directly to the whitener would result in poorly milled, broken rice, as the hard paddy grains require different processing conditions. Shijiazhuang Xinlu Technology Co., Ltd. manufactures these separators to achieve high separation efficiency through a specific oscillating motion and the differential physical properties of the materials.

The machine consists of two independent separating units, or "bodies," mounted on a single frame and driven by a common drive mechanism. This design saves floor space and power while doubling the processing capacity. Each body contains a set of reciprocating rectangular trays or decks. The working surface of these decks is typically covered with specialized indented rubber or a textured material.

The mixture of brown rice and unhulled paddy is fed evenly onto the upper end of these inclined decks. The decks are set into a complex oscillating motion—a combination of a horizontal reciprocating movement and a slight vertical toss. This motion causes the material bed to fluidize and stratify. Due to their shape, size, and weight differences, the spherical brown rice kernels tend to settle to the bottom of the moving bed, in close contact with the deck surface. The longer, lighter, and more buoyant paddy grains tend to float on top of this layer.

The indented or textured surface of the deck plays a key role in the final separation. The specific friction properties of this material, combined with the deck's motion, cause the paddy grains, which are in the upper layer, to climb or "walk" uphill along the inclined deck. They are discharged at the upper end as the "paddy fraction." The brown rice kernels, remaining in contact with the deck, are carried by the motion downhill and are discharged at the lower end as the "brown rice fraction." A third, middle fraction, which is a mixture of both, can often be recirculated back to the feed for re-separation to maximize purity and recovery.

Key performance indicators for a paddy separator are its capacity and its separation efficiency. The efficiency is measured by the purity of the output brown rice stream (i.e., the absence of paddy) and the purity of the returned paddy stream (i.e., the absence of brown rice). The stroke length and speed of the oscillating motion are often adjustable to optimize performance for different grain varieties and mixtures. The Double Body Paddy Separator from Shijiazhuang Xinlu Technology Co., Ltd. is a mechanically robust and highly effective solution for this vital sorting task, ensuring that only pure brown rice proceeds to whitening, thereby protecting the whitener and maximizing the yield of high-quality, whole milled rice.
